Cillian Boyd is one of Todd's father figures/adoptive fathers. Ben Moore and Cillian were friends of Todd's parents so when they died, they took in Todd. Cillian was convinced by Ben to come to New World and he farms wheat and sheep on their farm with Todd and Ben.

In Chaos Walking, Cillian is portrayed by Kurt Sutter.

Biography[]

Pre-Series[]

Cillian wanted to fight against the men of Prentisstown when they were killing the women, but Ben made him stay so they could look after Todd.

Chaos Walking trilogy[]

The Knife of Never Letting Go[]

Cillian is working on a fission reaction when Todd arrives at his and Ben's house. He yells at Todd for not finding apples in the swamp and makes Todd take care of the sheep on the farm. When Cillian sees David Prentiss, Jr., he and Ben get ready for Todd to escape Prentisstown. He dies defending his and Ben's house to allow time for Todd to escape.

Chaos Walking (film)[]

Cillian is seen working his and Ben's farm when Todd comes back from the forest with Manchee. When Viola escapes from David and Davy, he is one of the people to find Viola in the shed near his house. Cillian is shot by David for defending himself, Ben, Todd, and Viola.

Ben is Cillian's partner, or potential husband.

Todd Hewitt[]

Todd Hewitt is Cillian's adoptive son. Cillian and Todd fight a lot, but, according to Ben, this is because he cares about him. As they are shown from Todd's perspective, light's never shone on this fact as "he wouldn't care".

  • Cillian is pronounced "Killian".
  • It was never established if Ben and Cillian are in a romantic relationship in the books. However, it was confirmed by Patrick Ness himself that Ben and Cillian are a couple. Ben and Cillian's relationship might be the first LGBT+ couple with children shown in a book before LGBT+ couples were in modern mainstrean novels.
  • Cillian Boyd was "rough" with Todd, only because he loved him.
  • "Cillian" is a masculine name derived from the Gaelic word "ceall", meaning "church". "Boyd" is last name denoting someone from the Scottish isle of Bute.
